How to Total Hours on a Timesheet

A free Excel timesheet template totals a week of hours. The sample week belongs to Maya Chen, the week of March 2, 2026. You type the date, the start time, the end time, and the break in minutes. The sheet turns those times into hours. It does not calculate pay.

Free Excel timesheet template

The free Excel timesheet template is one person and one week. Start is a time, such as 8:00, not the number 8. End on the sample Monday is 16:30. Break minutes are typed as 30, not 0.5. The sheet divides by 60.

This workbook does not handle a shift that crosses midnight. Copy the file for a second person instead of stacking two weeks in one block. Google Sheets opens the same .xlsx.

Hours, then pay

When the hours are right, move them to the free payroll template. The free employee schedule template is the plan for who works. The timesheet is what happened. If they disagree, decide which number is true before you pay anyone.
